Genetics and Environmental Exposures

Studies of genetics and environmental exposures hold the key to understanding the causes of Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. IND is conducting several studies involving both research participants with symptoms and research participants who may be at risk to develop these diseases due to family history or environmental exposures. We have coupled some of these studies with functional brain imaging to assess changes in brain function due to genetics or environmental exposure. Our goal is to develop simple screening tests to assess subjects at risk for disease so that treatment can be initiated as early as possible.
